Water quality measuring station in Schmilka

The new program extension of ENMO®hydro makes it possible to execute a task in Windows according to a predefined schedule without manual intervention, which regularly and automatically generates corresponding graphics.

The State Operating Company for Environment and Agriculture (BfUL) currently operates 5 water quality monitoring stations on behalf of the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG) in Saxony on the rivers Elbe, Lausitzer Neiße and Vereinigte Mulde.

The stations are used for continuous monitoring of water quality and are equipped with numerous physico-chemical online monitors and bio-monitors. Samples of the river water are taken as daily or weekly composite samples and of suspended matter as monthly composite samples. A comprehensive analysis of these samples is then carried out in the laboratory of the BfUL. Furthermore, event sampling is automatically triggered when threshold values are exceeded or not reached.

The ENMO®hydro program is used as a complex software for control, function monitoring of the stations with their pump, sampling and analysis systems, for data transfer, data management as well as evaluation and assessment of the measurement data.

In cooperation of software developer and user a further development of the functionality of the software took place. Now, selection automations defined in the system can not only be started and processed directly by the user, but a task is executed in Windows according to a predefined schedule (e.g. hourly) without manual intervention, which regularly and automatically generates corresponding graphics.

The ENMO®hydro program is started with a functional USER (e.g. monitor), the graphics defined in the respective automatic selection are loaded and exported to a predefined folder. The program is then closed again.

Since the end of July 2021, the BfUL has been successfully using this program extension to update the graphical representation of the measurement results on the Internet pages and on the information monitor directly at the water quality measuring station in Schmilka every hour, irrespective of weekdays or working hours. Furthermore, data validation is carried out manually every working day, taking into account various quality assurance measures and functional tests of the "overall system water quality measuring station". The progress of the data of the various measured variables is updated with reservations (non-validated values) but now hourly.

With this solution, it was possible to fulfill the wish of many interested parties to always have comprehensive up-to-date information on the development of the water quality situation.
